Lazy Days

Ashi's favorite splat spot lately is the SuperScratcher. Yeah, I don't understand it either.
I've never understood why they call it the Dog Days of Summer. These long, hot days are made for lazing around, which in my mind makes them the Cat Days of Summer. After all, who is better at relaxing?

Bobby usually just plops down in the middle of the floor somewhere.
I always want to take a nap when the temps top 100 degrees. The cats are no exception. In fact, according to my calculations, the melting point of cat is 103.6 degrees F. At that point, they go completely boneless and can't be roused for anything short of a fresh can of tuna.

Boots found a cool spot on the bathroom counter.
Of course, a melted cat will immediately return to a solid - and highly excited - state with the addition of a tiny amount of water.
Diedra, as always, hangs in the potato box on top of the fridge. Actually, the box doesn't store potatoes any more. I got tired of them being fuzzy, so I moved them someplace else.
I can always tell when it starts to hit the really hot part of the day. Boots and Bobby are usually chasing each other around and Sandi is yowling to go outside. Then they start to slow down. The wrestling match turns into a groom-fest, then they wander off to collapse in exhaustion. By the time 1 p.m. rolls around, they have gone completely dormant.

Mishu is all about luxury. Her favorite spot is on the couch.
Then, as the sun goes down and the weather starts to cool, they slowly return to life. They start twitching and even lift a head as I walk by, then they'll start wandering around looking for food.

Sandi has usurped my desk chair. Yep, it's hers now.
Their favorite, of course, is if I also take a nap in the middle of the day. They will work in shifts to make sure I  have sufficient nap support through the afternoon. How's that for dedication?

Cats are subtle creatures

Funny story from yesterday:

I have been pretty tired and sick lately, but the cats have made sure I've stayed on task with things like scooping the litter boxes (Ashi hates a dirty box and will express her displeasure by pooping on my bathroom rug) and keeping the food dishes full (Diedra will use an empty food dish as a hockey puck). For the most part, though, they have been helping me get plenty of rest. :-)

Yesterday was a long day. I had to work far too early in the morning and we had a computer system change-over at work. It was chaotic, to say the least, and by the time I got home I was brain dead and exhausted. The kitties and I had some snuggle time and we played for a bit. Ashi and Boots got some grooming time in. Basically, we had a quiet evening.

I finally hit the point in the evening where I decided I wasn't going to get anything productive done so I may as well go to bed. I changed into my PJs and went in to brush my teeth. Then Mishu jumped up on the bathroom counter. Mishu NEVER jumps up on the counter. Then Bobby started rubbing against my legs and then sat and staired at me. Diedra jumped up on the other side of the sink and just stared - without hissing at Mishu, which is strange to say the least. Then I noticed Ashi and Boots also in the bathroom behind me. All 6 cats were just sitting there staring at me. No one was hissing or growling at each other and no one was meowing or making a fuss. They just stared ....

OK, I was a little freaked. I could imagine horror movie theme music playing in the background. Was an earthquake about to hit? Were we being invaded by zombies? Were they predicting I was about to collapse in a seizure? WHAT WAS GOING ON??!!

Then it clicked. It was 9:30 p.m. and I hadn't fed them their gushy food.

Updates - From Guest Blogger Sandi

The only good thing about Kate being sick is we get LOTS of cuddle time. It's exhausting, but someone has to help her nap.
Hello, all. I know you have been waiting and waiting and waiting and WAITING for new posts on all of us awesome cats. After all, we are extremely cute and we are looking for our forever homes. Unfortunately, the lady who has been taking care of us - Kate - hasn't been feeling very well lately. She is still feeding us yummy treats and we are getting LOTS of cuddle time - isn't cuddle time the best?? - but she hasn't been writing much. I finally hacked her blogger account and can you believe it's been 2 WEEKS since she posted!! And the last post was about [gasp] DOGS!!!!!!!!! Well, I had to do something about this. So while Kate is taking another nap, I will catch you up on what is going on around here.

Those boys are SO annoying. Here I am trying to cuddle with Kate and they're back there grooming. Ugh!
First, big smelly Bobby (OK, he doesn't really smell bad, but he is a boy) and that obnoxious new kid Boots have started up the most annoying bromance. Seriously, if they aren't chasing each other around the house like a couple of hooligans, they're cleaning each other's ears. It's pretty annoying. I've tried ignoring it, but they can get SO obnoxious about it. Bobby has even tried to groom ME!! Ugh! Tom Cat Cooties!!

Diedra doesn't like their canoodling any better than I do. She's been spending a lot of time on top of the cold food storage thing in her box, trying to ignore it all. Mishu, on the other hand, will actually let them groom her sometimes (the tramp). Of course, she's so mellow she'd probably let a dog lick her if it wanted to. Yuck!!

Ashi's been really depressed because Kate is on a "special diet" right now. I'm not sure exactly what that means, except that there is no cheese. I've never liked the stuff myself, but Ashi swears by it and she is really upset about there not being any cheese in the house. Kate tried giving Ashi some "soy cheese" but Ashi didn't buy it. She sniffed at it and tried to bury it under the kitchen rug. Ashi says she really misses the "kids" - whatever those are. She says they are small versions of people and they are always dropping all kinds of yummy food on the floor. Sound like a myth to me.

Anyway, that's what's happening around here at Kate's Place. Hopefully she'll be up and feeling better soon. If not, I'll make sure you stay updated.

Sweet dogs need a home

Bailey and Shiraz
I received an e-mail from a friend of mine today asking if I would spread the word about two wonderful dogs who need help.

Hi everyone,

A very good friend of mine is in ill health and we are seeking a foster home immediately for her two special doggies ... a permanent home will eventually be needed.  Currently, they are boarded at Animal Tender in St. George.  The girls need to get back into a home atmosphere quickly as they are being kept in a kennel most of the time.

Shiraz is a Golden Retriever, approx 11 years old, female, adopted from Cedar City Animal Shelter about 2 years ago, spayed, housebroken.

Bailey is a Brittany Spaniel mix, approx 3-4 yrs old, female, adopted from the Brittany/Springer Spaniel rescue group, spayed, housebroken.

Both girls are very sweet and loving, and would make a wonderful addition to anyone's family!
